Who We Are

Sunset Dawn at Caesar Creek
Did you ever get together with a group of old friends, maybe around a campfire
just about the time the sun was setting—and you talked, laughed, and sang
together all night, from sunset to dawn! That’s how we got started, picking and
singing and becoming better friends. Sometimes we do sing from sunset to dawn!
We grew up singing and playing music in the Appalachian tradition. Our music is
inspired by the past, played today and preserved for tomorrow. We sing stories
of work, play, love, loss, battle, land, and family, to the sound of instruments
that include mountain lap dulcimer, guitar, banjimer, autoharp, tin whistle, flute
and harmonica.

By sharing these tunes with other people, we hope to keep them—and their
proud history—from fading away. More than once, someone has
gifted us with memories of “My grandmother used to sing that to
me” or “I
remember hearing that tune as a child” or “Do you know the verse
that goes like…”
The people who gather to hear us perform are an inspiration to us. On stage, we
invite everyone to join in with our music, and afterward, we really love mingling
with the crowd to talk about songs, instruments, and Appalachian culture.
